Betabrand (2007 to present)
A symbiotic relationship between filmmaker and clothing company.
Since I met Chris Lindland in 2006, he's been a constant source of zany fun in my life... and I am certainly not the only person who feels this way. Chris is an entrepenuer with a winning combination of creativity and fearlessness... a sense of daring that saw him completely change careers in 2005, and jump whole-hog into the clothing business, starting a pants company based mostly on a joke.
He decided early on that Betabrand (formerly Cordarounds) would not employ professional models to display his line. This gave his company a certain social authenticity... while at the same time saving money on expensive fleshy mannequins. I have been lucky enough to be tapped as a model over the years... and because of this, I'm never in need awesome photos of myself.
But my relationship with Betabrand goes further than this. I was one of their official "sponsored athletes" in 2007 while abroad, and I have produced a number of short videos in the years since then. In exchange for these occasional videos, Chris has let me have a desk in the far corner of his Betabrand office to use for my own projects. Its a symbiotic relationship that works well for both of us. And I'm sure that when both our companies are valued in the 100's of billions of dollars, we'll share a 60-story office tower somewhere.
