I am a lily fainting just at the thought of getting to spend an entire 80 days with you two hott sexy crazy river men. I’ll wish on a star for your safety and adventure.

The Mississippi River will always have its own way; no engineering skill can persuade it to do otherwise…

Congratulations guys! Break a leg - smash a rudder - go with the flow - don’t let the big barges push you around. Remember, every eddy and sandbar is an opportunity to pause for reflection - may the fluid dynamics of the Big River be with you and then overawe you!
    luv,
    bob

Hi Guys, I can’t believe that you had enough sun to do that last shtick! Glad you got a break in the rain. CBS news tonight says the MS is going to be near record flood levels once you get to IL. Be careful. I’m watching(out) for you! xo D

  7. Mary Beth and Gram June 11th, 2008 8:49 pm

Hey guys, Just got caught up on your adventures so far. Gram is a bit worried about the weather and the flooding in your areas of travel. Also, you might want to check on this but there have been reports that part of the river is closed off to thru travel due to the flooding. Also, she has a suggestion to compensate for your gas expences, she thinks you ought to do more floating/drifting and make a rudder to steer your way from on coming vessels. Isn’t that what Tom Sawyer did? Anyway, take care, stay dry and drive safe.

Do they have gravity on the Mississippi?

  9. Nikki June 15th, 2008 12:14 pm

Hey guys! Good luck on your adventure. Be careful with the flood, I hear it is bad. I hope to see you in St. Louis. Will you be making a stop here? We would all like to see you.
    Love,
Nikki (Bill’s cousin) and the rest of the Kiernan/Settles crew.

    Hi Guys,

Too bad you’re not going down the Missouri. We would have some fresh blueberries and raspberries for ya, some out of my back yard!

Thanks for the blog and the interviews of those you have been meeting along the way. The family farm was such a joy to see.

    Blessings,
    Karen

P.S. If you two end up driving each other crazy, let me know. It might be fun to coach you out of it, on or off the blog. ;~)

Hi,guys: Just came upon you today, Sun., from a mention on TV. Will be following along. I’m 75 and have done several such advenures (and still doin’ em). Took my boat through Erie Canal, Sewannee River (FL), Motorcycled the Baja, sailed Gulf to Yucatan, etc. Have you seen the book by an Englishman named Raban, called Old Glory? He did your trip 30 yrs ago in a 16′ open boat. Good observer. Might be fun for you to compare notes on the river, the towns and people. Good luck, have fun! don

    Greetings to Huck and Jim

You inspired me to reread Huckleberry Finn. What a great adventure. Theirs and yours. Thanks for sending the daily rushes. I look forward to reading and watching them every night before I go to sleep.

Hey Tom and Huck, It’s your friends from Quincy IL. Thank you for letting us come onto your boat and drink a beer with you. It was so cool the way you guys made that boat. Becky is still in love with Tom. She really wanted to hop aboard and go with you. I would have like to also but I wouldn’t of been able to take my baby (Destiny). I hope you have fun in Hannibal. All of us and Destiny wishes you luck. We hope you have alot of fun, and drink one for us. If you ever make it back to Quincy get ahold of us. We would love to see you again!

    Love,
    Sarah, Bobby, and Destiny
